What is Light Steel?
In our sector, light steel structural units are called different names like thin-walled steel or cold formed steel. In fact, each of the nomenclature is due to the fact that these carrier system elements are viewed from a different angle. They are lighter than rolled steel structures. Because most of the cold-formed steel is made from rolls of flat slabs with 0.011 (0.28mm) to 0.018 (4.8mm) inch thickness. However, some sections may consist of 3/4 or 1 inch (19mm to 25mm) thick plates.

Sturdy and Stable
Steel, being a homogeneous and isotropic material, allows for more advanced calculation approaches compared to wood and concrete. Thin-walled steel structural elements, especially in large-span and low-rise structures, are more economical than conventional steel elements due to their high load-carrying capacity relative to their weight. These structures can last for many years without maintenance because zinc galvanization protects them from corrosion.
Ease of handling
In the manufacture and assembly of light steel structural elements, it is possible to work with much lower capacity lifting machines.
Nature Conscious
Because steel is a %100 recyclable material, it has a great performance in terms of sustainability.
High Durability
Thin-walled steel structures served many years due to the protection from corrosion with zinc galvanization and it does not require any maintenance during this time.
Easy Installation and Minimum Cost
Because most labor work is conducted in the factory, time spent in the assembly area and construction site cost decreases. Negative impacts of the environmental effects are minimal.
Architect-designing
The flexibility steel structures offer in architectural design further enhances the appeal of light steel structures.
Platform Frame
Platform framing system is one of the most common methods. The system, which is very common in Canada, America, and England, got this name because the wall skeletons were built as separate platforms for each floor and prefabricated in the factory. Tiles extending outward from the corners of the wall are installed independently of each other. When installed, they provide a platform or work surface on which walls or dividers are installed.
Ballon Frame
The system is the first light wood frame system used in North America. It became popular in the UK in the 1960s. Difference from other systems; the length of the uprights, floor slab from the base plate, to the ceiling plate of the first floor is up to two floors across. Plates are supported on the props and flooring are a base such as central beams or load-bearing walls. A continuous belt (Ribbon) is nailed to the uprights and the beams are placed on this belt and screwed to the sides of the rafters.
Type Of Steel-Quality
In general, carbon steel and low-alloy high tensile steel which is used for cold-formed steel products have two main characteristic specialties: yield point and breaking strength. Other important properties are ductility, hardness, and weldability. The yield point of steels which are commonly used for cold forming are between 33 to 50 psi (230 to 345 Mpa) and may even be higher. Tensile strength and ductility are important due to their impact on formability and the local deformation demands of bolted and other connection types.
